Denim

Denim is a strong, durable fabric constructed in a twill weave with two or more yarns (usually black, indigo and white). Denim is traditionally woven with 100%-cotton yarn; however, it is now usually blended with polyester, to control shrinkage and wrinkles, and Lycra to add stretch. Denim has many faces. It can be printed, striped, brushed, napped, and stonewashed.

Jersey

 

Soft, stretchy fabric knitted using a single needle. Easy to differentiate the right side (vertical lines) and the wrong side (horizontal lines). Made from 100% cotton (most popular), cotton blends or synthetic fibers. Can be lightweight, midweight or heavyweight, depending on the type of yarn.

Interlock

Knitted with closely interlocking stitches allowing it to stretch. Similar to jersey fabric except it uses two needles and both sides of the fabric look the same. Double knit construction gives the fabric a thicker knit. Interlock is the tightest weave, gives the smoothest surface and the finest hand.

Piqué

Also known as Marcella or Lacoste Knit, Piqué knit has raised fibers that form a ribbed like texture that can form various types of patterns (which can be seen up close) like the honeycomb, diamond, cord structure, bird eye and even a waffle pattern depending on the manufacturing process.

Rib

Rib knit is a double-knit fabric that knits fabric in vertical rigged pattern called ribbing. Ribbing is notated by (number of knit stitches) x (number of purl stitches). Thus, a 1x1 knit stitch has one knit stitch followed by one purl stitch, followed by one knit stitch and so on. Ribs can be small (1×1, that is, one knit stitch followed by one purl stitch), thick, (2×2 or 3×3, 4x4), or uneven (2×3, for example).

French Terry

French Terry fabric is a knitted terry cloth fabric that features loops and soft piles of yarn on one side, (usually the inside of a garment), and a smooth, soft surface on the other side. French Terry knitted fabric is suitable to wear year round and is a great knit for sportswear.

Fleece

 

Fleece Knit Fabric is a durable, warm, and stretch fabric with a thick, deep pile. Fleece Fabric dries quickly, making it perfect for active wear. It is similar to a French Terry fabric except one side goes through the process of raising, where one side of the fabric is brushed and combed causing the threads to break and becoming fuzzy.

Microfiber Polyester

 

Microfiber polyester (made famous by Nike’s Dri-Fit and Adidas ClimaCool), is a finely weaved, lightweight fabric that is mainly used for sportswear. The face side of the fabric has slightly inclined vertical knitting loops whereas the backside of the fabric has inclined horizontal floats. It has mesh ventilation for breathability, microfiber for moister wicking & comfort and polyester for appearance, durability, & wrinkle-resistance.

Polyester

 

Polyester offers great benefits, chiefly among them being their lightweight yet durable quality, perfect for spending large amounts of time on the soccer field. Being a man-made material, polyester can be manufactured in a more consistent manner than other fabrics. A consistent manufacturing process lends itself to the affordability of the material. It’s also engineered to be soft, thus adding to the comfort factor, while maintaining its durability.
